This model was designed from the start to approximate as much as possible an authentic Italian timbre, but retaining some french characteristics truly welcome in a bass section. Its show a profound but defined timbre, with impeccable articulation and clear, precise intonation.
The Gasparian school inspired the high and thin ribs, as well the most of the outline. Other elements can be attributed to the basses of Matteo Gofriller, such as the back, which is positioned at about 2° inclination from the front, without any curvature at the plane which is in contact with the ribs. The front is sculpted and graduated with thicknesses that are virtually uniform, in accordance with the Italian practice. A generous transverse arching offers plenty of resistance to the weight of the strings, allowing me the use of relatively small thicknesses.
This, as well as the advantageous height of the ribs, creates a large internal volume of air.
The back has a croos arching that is relatively less pronounced than the belly, which is a strong difference from the Venetian basses. The proportions between the front and the back are in reality Stradivarian; the Maestro always constructed backs that were slightly lower in cross arching than the fronts, for his violins, violas as well as cellos.
The length of the strings is very comfortable, in this case only 1055mm. This measurement is considered by the most the standard 3/4 bass.
The neck is positioned in a way to facilitate access to the extreme positions as much as possible, without losing the important references at the fourth position. Besides having a not very great length, the bass strings produce deep oscillations, and project the fundamentals with ease.
